What is a Property Location Drawing
A property location drawing is an important document. It is a simplified survey showing the approximate locations of features on a property relative to property boundaries. A location drawing is the only reliable way to obtain and confirm basic information about a property. Property location drawings are different from Boundary Surveys. A Boundary Survey is more precise with property lines.
For the purpose of building your project either document can be used.
Where Can I Find My Property Location Drawing?
Your property location drawing can usually be located in the settlement documents from when you purchased your home. If you cannot locate the documents you can reach out to your mortgage company, the title company that handled the settlement, and the agent who assisted with the purchase.

What Does a Property Location Drawing Look Like?
Location Drawing and Boundary Surveys are typically printed on 11” x 14” paper. You may also have an electronic PDF copy in your email, computer, or other electronic storage.

For projects that require permits, the county requires an accurate site plan. In order to have an accurate site plan, a property location survey or boundary survey is needed.
Most HOA’s will also require a site plan that shows where improvements are being made in relation to the neighboring properties.
